The Copeland/Huckabee Love Affair

01/27/2008

Huckabee & Copeland

Billionaire evangelist oilman cattle rancher Kenneth Copeland, who sits so high atop the “prosperity gospel” pyramid that he has hundreds of “franchise” churches whose pastors send money back up the pipeline, spent much of his annual ministers conference last week talking about how he stonewalled the Senate Finance Committee, then boasted about having Mike Huckabee on his team.

“Kenneth Copeland, I will stand with you!” Huckabee yelled over the phone, according to Copeland. “You’re trying to get prosperity to the people, and they’re [the Senate] trying to take it away from ‘em. I will stand with you anytime, anywhere, on any issue!”

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialise correctly.

You can watch the whole speech here, but basically Copeland is saying that he offered to hide his close relationship with Huckabee—the ex-governor had recently recorded a full week of televised “Bible studies” with Copeland, who constantly huckstered Huckabee’s ten-year-old book—but Huckabee said he would gladly oppose the Senate’s investigation of Copeland and others because “they only have an 11 percent approval rating.”

Every year Copeland invites about 1,000 fellow prosperity-gospel ministers to his church/broadcasting facility/ranch/natural gas field/airstrip in Newark, Texas, a few miles north of Fort Worth, for a three-day conference. This year he shut down the conference after two of the days and convened some kind of separate session with the same ministers that would protect his 501(3)(c) tax exemption while he raised campaign funds for Huckabee. Reports on Thursday morning were that he’d come up with $111,000 in immediate cash, plus an additional million bucks in pledges, which would work out to around $1,000 per pastor. (These sorts of fundraising efforts with the Copeland “family” are fairly common. About 30 pastors raised $2.1 million for Copeland’s 70th birthday celebration a year ago.)

The Door left messages for Huckabee and his press secretary over the weekend, but they were not returned.

Copeland spent much of the three-day ministers conference reassuring his fellow pastors that all their ministries were safe from the prying eyes of the Congress. He repeatedly made a distinction between the Congress and the Internal Revenue Service, saying that he recognized the executive branch but not the legislative when it came to oversight. He was especially upset by a request that he reveal the donors to a “special offering” made to himself and his wife for the 40th anniversary of their ministry and said that he’d “promised to God” never to give any information to anyone about that, even if it means prison or death. He frequently mentioned receiving direct instructions from “the Lord,” including instructions to put Mike Huckabee on his television show, Believer’s Voice of Victory.

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialise correctly.

During his six programs with Huckabee, airing in November, the two men reminisced about their friendship and Huckabee’s political career in Arkansas, with occasional excursions into scripture. Neither of them distinguished themselves as Biblical scholars, but Huckabee’s comments were especially lame as he seemed to be sucking up to “Brother Kenneth” in discussing passages like James 1:3: “It is the trying of your faith that works patience.”

Huckabee’s read on that passage was that he used to think “trying” meant a trial of faith. (This is what 99 percent of commentators for the past 2000 years have also believed it meant.) But then, the more he thought about it, the more he thought the key word was “try.” It meant to “keep trying,” and every time you fail, to try again. “I tried tithing and it didn’t work. Well, try it again. I tried it three or four times. Well, try it again.” Huckabee’s view: it doesn’t mean to be patient when God sends trials, it means to assert yourself—in other words, the opposite of its apparent meaning. Since the Greek word for “try” as in “trial” and the Greek word for “try” as in “attempt” are two different words, Huckabee’s exegesis of this particular scripture is not only demonstrably wrong as a matter of fact, but he seems to be insisting on it as a way to support Copeland’s emphasis on tithing, which is the source of his fortune.

There are other examples scattered through the week, including some statements by Huckabee that, no matter what office he holds, “my only client is Jesus.”

Other highlights from the minister’s conference:

• Copeland seems puzzled by the fact that Senator Charles Grassley, who is spearheading the Senate investigation, was also the author of the Church Protection Act.

• Copeland talks about his natural gas company and says that the Senate’s suspicions about the source of that wealth are “bull.”

• Copeland’s characterization of his answer to Senator Grassley: “We gave them a several page lesson on ‘No’. . . . We gave them the address of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C.”

• Copeland assures everyone that he’s personally been a billionaire “a long time” and that his ministry has taken in $1.3 billion over 41 years. “I’m the seed of Abraham. The seed of Abraham are known for being rich. I’m a Jew. I’m a rich Jew backed by a richer Jew. God loves me just as much as he loves Jesus.”

Editor's note: Confronted about the Copeland statements on "Meet the Press," Huckabee did not deny that he said what Copeland said he said.

Hello to all the TBN/Copeland Lovers:

Yes, it is true they a frauds, liars, false teachers and false profits!!(prophets) preaching the pursuit for financial gain is Godliness!!

Those of you who support such beasts of the cloth are damnably deceived.

I will tell you, to this day TBN of NEVIS, (carribean) the first station is run by a bunch of cons!! Andre Gilbert new GM ran a scam out of the Nevis office a ripped off many americans in a debt free scam!!

It has become a family battle, father against son. TBN is allowing this scammer to stay on board as a GM in the TBN office even after reporting his affairs in a scam that was run out of the TBN station in nevis. The GM of Nevis Andre Gilbert, ran this scam behind the backs of TBN, and is still employed there as well.

It's all about money and fleecing the flock folks..WAKE UP America!! The judgement against the people of God or the church are these scammer preachers, because the people refuse to read and search the scriptures for themselves, and as God sent Israel Saul to be their king so God has sent to our generation these Frauds of the Gospel to tickle listening ears and hearts full of lust for material gain.

As shepherd so go the sheep straight to HELL!!

Regarding the comments about the TBN GM in Nevis; after investigating i have found that it was the father who was the former GM who had been stealing from TBN and from the cash that people gave to TBN. He purchased 2 multimillion dollar villas at the Local Four Seasons Resort and still has acres of land throughout the island which he also purchased, and land in the Caribbean is not cheap! Apparently he erected a communications tower on TBN's land without their permission and collects money from renting space on the tower and business he formed. He also owns a plant business. Not to mention he allowed a political radio station to operate in the TBN building and as a result that political party is now the current government, governing in Nevis, who are very much thankful to the former GM for letting their political radio station operate at TBN. He also befriended a scam artist who was interested in purchasing one of his multimillion dollar homes and allowed him to use the TBN facilities to temporarily operate his scam business.
How in the world did he manage the station for almost 24 years and acquire so much wealth on his lowly salary? How is it that over 24 years the TV station just sat there gathering dust while he operated his own businesses and stole from TBN to mass his own wealth? Now that he got fired for doing this and because his son refused to follow in his footsteps he is upset?

I didn't know Huckabee was willing stoop to consorting with tv evangelists and prosperity preachers. I guess politicians will prostitute themselves for any exposure they can get.

The main reason for a tithe is to sow into the kingdom in God. Many people sow seed into KC ministries, you can not tell me that he does not HELP PEOPLE AND SAVE SOULS! You can take a homeless person into your home but if you do not win their soul it is pointless. Giving hamburgers and fries to homeless people is pointless unless you win souls! Filling stomachs does not save souls. To the lady that wrote a book about the things her church did I am truely sorry. Sorry that it happened to you, but i'm also sorry that you didn't have mentorship in your life to guide you in the right direction. Is this all KC fault? NO! Do you realize that you can still follow his preachings! You guys do realize that it does cost money to fly across seas to preach right? It cost money to do things like that. Do you realize that KC was poor also? He just chose to follow the WORD. Stop manipulating things and believing the media who is controlled by liberal athiests with no moral standards what so ever. "Play the religion card"... ITS NOT LIKE HE JUST STARTED BELIEVING IN GOD GIVE ME A BREAK!

Get real dude, and have a big gulp of the Jim Jones kool aid....you are deceived! How can you dare be so flip after a story like that? And how can you even think that the santa claus jesus that copeland SELLS is the same Jesus of the bible. You've been brain-washed to believe that it's okay to fleece the flock in the name of god.

What about Copeland's FLEET of jets, his huge ranch, lake houses, bling, plastic surgery, boats, body guards, lawyers, vacation homes, 5 star hotels, etc.

How is that like Christ. But it gets worse...Copeland twists scripture to say that tithing is what god wants....his greedy god maybe....but not the God of the Bible.

Eliminate the middle man....give directly to the poor and to organizations that have open books and are accountable to where the money goes.

Come Senator Grassley.....STOP THESE PIMPS FROM STEALING FROM THE FLOCK!!

SOWING SEED has nothing to do with money....in context, it means sowing THE WORD into other people's lives. Get away from the prosperity gospel...it is leading people to hell, including Copeland, Hinn, Hagee, Godwin, Hawkins, Jakes, Meyer, Duplantis, Osteen, Hagin, Roberts etc.

All this is part of the culture war this country is in. The bible says God is a warrior, and The Lord is His name, The Lord of Hosts means the lord of the armies of heaven. Battlefield strtegy is involved, here. Satan also is a battlefield strategist; though, in the end he'll find out he is no match for Jesus. The purpose of Grassley's (R.I.N.O.) attacks (along with all the ACLU,et al who are attacking the church is to defeat christianity, (which is what the founders meant when they said the word 'religion').The reason all these leaders like Copeland, Dollar, Meyer, Hinn, etc. are being attacked is that they're doing the work of God in a big way, and they're righteous. It should be noted that this idea that you can't make any political statement from the pulpit is something that was put against the church, I think back in the 50's and nobody contested it loud enough. It would not stand against the constitution, which also has NO reference to "separation of church & state". What it does say is that congress (highest law-making body in the land) shall make NO law with religion (christianity) or the free practice thereof. Period. When the Bible was taught in our public schools, the U.S. had the best & highest rated school system on earth. Now in the 50's the systematic removal of God's Word began, and now look at the condition we're in. Mostly because the christians were too complacent to fight. We lost it because we didn't heed the passage " be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil lurks about for whom he may devour". I totally disrespect these henchmen who attack these good men & women of God, because I know who motivates them to do their evil work. Bob Dylan wrote a song once, it's title is a real fact of life - "you've got to serve somebody". It's evident to me who these people like Grassley are serving. A note to this guy Claiming Copeland is a "billionaire oil man, Cattle rancher" doesn't even have a clue what he's talking about. I'v been to E.M.I.C. occasionally, and I think it's the most spiritually mature & loving church I've ever visited. It has excellence all over it, and it's because Ken & Gloria are people OF excellence, they don't play religeous games & don't tolerate that stuff, either. If this spineless reporter thinks Copeland's so filthy rich, explain to me why doesn't the copeland home have a swimming pool?

Psalm 105:15 "Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm" Be very wary of the words of your lips. The same words you use to attack Copeland and other Christian brothers and sisters, will undoubtedly open you up to attacks from the enemy. Questioning teachings and even disagreeing with teachings is Biblical, but your attacks go far beyond and delve into witchcraft and endanger you and those you are "trying" to save. Be very careful, because God's wrath is no respector of persons!

on every one that has talked about these preachers. i think that every one should pray for them if there hearts are on the wrong page. when jesus walked on earth and sent the aposles out to preach he said not to bring anything with them that everything would be there for food and shelter . they also healed people everywhere they went if they acceptded the gospel or not or just listened. im a back sliden christian and i have not seen any of these things yet in most of these people i dont go to ther churches because there to far to go to but i do know this real men of god when praying things are suppose to move it may not mean in a second but it does move. in the old testament these great men of god were killers aduthers etc but when they prayed god helped when they confessed there sins. in the new testament its the same thing either there is not much faith out thereor people are going about this all wrong. didnt jesus say what is it to you if he lives until i come back. help the poor feed the hungry give clothes ther is a whole lot of people in this country that need this and i beleive that the christains in this country should try to get together and get the word out as much as possible never mind whoes rich or poor. ive been stugguling with my own problems and beleive me its not that simple. i read what god says and i turn around and i dont see what i read or god has not showun me yet thanks ray charette

I like the God of wrath everyone is warning about, He's easier to understand than trying to figure all this stuff out. Maybe if I give enough serve enough and keep doing it for long enough.....he wont be mad at me......
One amazing thing to me is where is the real and living Jesus in all of this? I'll bet He would give to these guys too...and , and prolly even more an' stuff. That way He would get all blessed up.
Amazing! "christians" are the most freaked out and unstable, ( I oughta know I is one ) Whenever I need a good laugh I just look at all of the problems like starvation and stuff like that , an' then I roll over in my little blanket all happy an' warm and just know the billions of dollars are being well spent.
I want money, send me some! Good things will happen to you .
Tired now , going to bed ......mmmmm warm.

All I can say is Kenneth Copeland got me turned on to the WORD in 1972 and I've faithfully served God ever since! Most who criticize have never been to a meeting. Brother Copeland is a man of integrity and he has been a blessing to millions of people. I've heard he's "given" 27 airplanes to other ministers. What amazes me about the body of Christ is we think nothing about Hugh Hefner or some infidel having a mansion or a jet, but we get upset when a Christian is blessed! I love when Christians are blessed! Jesus said in Mark 10 that blessing would bring "persecution". It's just sad when it comes from within the body of Christ.

Where is the airplane of Kenneth Copeland Ministries?
Are they in Japan right now where they are so desperately needed? Where is the water and food for the people in horrific and desperate need that our tithe dollars are supposed to supply? Where are they and all the other televangelists in this massive humanitarian crisis?
Jesus told us "by their fruits (actions) you will know them". How many more hours of suffering will tick by and how many more people will cry out before TRUE followers of Jesus will respond!!!
It’s never been about self-centered brat prosperity -i.e. the rich young man who just couldn't bring himself to give up the junk possessions of life to follow the Truth and be set free.
It’s about Love, Truth and self-sacrifice. It’s about following Jesus and giving “until it hurts” like Mother Teresa showed us by her fruits (actions) following Jesus.

If Kenneth Copeland is going against the Word of God, produce the Scriptures. Never mind all that other stuff about being a billionaire (where does Scripture prohibit that)? If He is preaching false doctrine then show me in the Word. You are judging by the outer appearance. Maybe you do not like how he looks or how he talks. They crucified Jesus for telling the truth. It is not strange that they attempt to do that with God's true servants. I am not saying that Kenneth Copeland is perfect. He will be the first to admit that he isn't. The Bible says to mark those that cause division contrary to the truth. God will deal with these people. So mellow out. If you are right, then what is the problem. Do you not think that God will not deal with him. You are not the judge, God is. He passes sentence and then He judges. You are either a very immature christian or you are self-deceived into thinking that you are saved. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Nowhere in the Word are we instructed to resist people. In fact the Bible does say that we wrestle not with flesh and blood. Apparently you do. That is disobedience to the Word. You are therefore under God's judgment. And you would like to take as many as you can with you. Who really is your father??? If it was God, you would know His people. Wise up!
