Billionaire evangelist oilman cattle rancher Kenneth Copeland, who sits so high atop the “prosperity gospel” pyramid that he has hundreds of “franchise” churches whose pastors send money back up the pipeline, spent much of his annual ministers conference last week talking about how he stonewalled the Senate Finance Committee, then boasted about having Mike Huckabee on his team.
“Kenneth Copeland, I will stand with you!” Huckabee yelled over the phone, according to Copeland. “You’re trying to get prosperity to the people, and they’re [the Senate] trying to take it away from ‘em. I will stand with you anytime, anywhere, on any issue!”

You can watch the whole speech here, but basically Copeland is saying that he offered to hide his close relationship with Huckabee—the ex-governor had recently recorded a full week of televised “Bible studies” with Copeland, who constantly huckstered Huckabee’s ten-year-old book—but Huckabee said he would gladly oppose the Senate’s investigation of Copeland and others because “they only have an 11 percent approval rating.”
Every year Copeland invites about 1,000 fellow prosperity-gospel ministers to his church/broadcasting facility/ranch/natural gas field/airstrip in Newark, Texas, a few miles north of Fort Worth, for a three-day conference. This year he shut down the conference after two of the days and convened some kind of separate session with the same ministers that would protect his 501(3)(c) tax exemption while he raised campaign funds for Huckabee. Reports on Thursday morning were that he’d come up with $111,000 in immediate cash, plus an additional million bucks in pledges, which would work out to around $1,000 per pastor. (These sorts of fundraising efforts with the Copeland “family” are fairly common. About 30 pastors raised $2.1 million for Copeland’s 70th birthday celebration a year ago.)
The Door left messages for Huckabee and his press secretary over the weekend, but they were not returned.
Copeland spent much of the three-day ministers conference reassuring his fellow pastors that all their ministries were safe from the prying eyes of the Congress. He repeatedly made a distinction between the Congress and the Internal Revenue Service, saying that he recognized the executive branch but not the legislative when it came to oversight. He was especially upset by a request that he reveal the donors to a “special offering” made to himself and his wife for the 40th anniversary of their ministry and said that he’d “promised to God” never to give any information to anyone about that, even if it means prison or death. He frequently mentioned receiving direct instructions from “the Lord,” including instructions to put Mike Huckabee on his television show, Believer’s Voice of Victory.

During his six programs with Huckabee, airing in November, the two men reminisced about their friendship and Huckabee’s political career in Arkansas, with occasional excursions into scripture. Neither of them distinguished themselves as Biblical scholars, but Huckabee’s comments were especially lame as he seemed to be sucking up to “Brother Kenneth” in discussing passages like James 1:3: “It is the trying of your faith that works patience.”
Huckabee’s read on that passage was that he used to think “trying” meant a trial of faith. (This is what 99 percent of commentators for the past 2000 years have also believed it meant.) But then, the more he thought about it, the more he thought the key word was “try.” It meant to “keep trying,” and every time you fail, to try again. “I tried tithing and it didn’t work. Well, try it again. I tried it three or four times. Well, try it again.” Huckabee’s view: it doesn’t mean to be patient when God sends trials, it means to assert yourself—in other words, the opposite of its apparent meaning. Since the Greek word for “try” as in “trial” and the Greek word for “try” as in “attempt” are two different words, Huckabee’s exegesis of this particular scripture is not only demonstrably wrong as a matter of fact, but he seems to be insisting on it as a way to support Copeland’s emphasis on tithing, which is the source of his fortune.
There are other examples scattered through the week, including some statements by Huckabee that, no matter what office he holds, “my only client is Jesus.”
Other highlights from the minister’s conference:
• Copeland seems puzzled by the fact that Senator Charles Grassley, who is spearheading the Senate investigation, was also the author of the Church Protection Act.
• Copeland talks about his natural gas company and says that the Senate’s suspicions about the source of that wealth are “bull.”
• Copeland’s characterization of his answer to Senator Grassley: “We gave them a several page lesson on ‘No’. . . . We gave them the address of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C.”
• Copeland assures everyone that he’s personally been a billionaire “a long time” and that his ministry has taken in $1.3 billion over 41 years. “I’m the seed of Abraham. The seed of Abraham are known for being rich. I’m a Jew. I’m a rich Jew backed by a richer Jew. God loves me just as much as he loves Jesus.”

Even though I am a Christian, I will not vote for anyone who:
1) Believes that Jesus will return tomorrow, and thus doesn't give a fig for the future of this planet or it's inhabitants
2) Believes that an attack on Israel will usher in the End Times , and thus sees confict in the Middle East as kick-starting The Rapture, and roots enthusiastically for it (ref. GW Bush)
3) Believes that God will give him a personal, audible message on how to govern this nation (again, ref. GW Bush)
4) Hates the United Nations because he believes The AntiChrist will use the United Nations for evil and to oppose the divinely established USofA.
Most conservative evangelicals believe these things, and I don't think Huckabee thinks any differently, though he will "dress it up" and make it acceptable to the less religious or less conservative.
What we all need to do is get up on Sunday morning and attend the church of your choice and NEVER send any money to these tv pastors!! Tithe to your local church and God WILL bless you!

Careful annonymous, you could get accused of trying to get little old ladies to tithe money they don't have to some local church that is every bit as bad as some apparently think Copeland is.
Why is it we judge poorer ministers and their local ministries as safer bets then the wealthy ones?

I wasn't really accusing annonymous of anything and I didn't really mean that all ministers are crooks but I still stand behind the rest of my statement.
Why should we think a local, less then wealthy, minsters is any less capable of greed and misuse than a wealthy one?
Copeland was a mediocre, less than wealthy, minister at one time who just happen to get a much larger following than most preachers get. Maybe it was his connestions that helped, I don't really care.
He is doing more to spread the book then anyone here is, as far as I am concerned anything that gets people to read the bible is just fine with me. And if he happend to skim more then others think he deserves, I don't care about that either.
He tells people repeatedly to read their own bibles, learn to discern for themselves, if they overlook that part of his preaching then that is their problem. It's the churches that lie to the people and tell them they need someone else to understand the bible but no where does Jesus say this. In fact he says that "if anyone believes in him then the holy spirit will give them all the discerment of spiritual things they could ever need."
So many people have their own religious bents on the bible, me, I will let the spirit inside of me lead my own thinking.

The sad part is that all the people here who are so quick to condemn someone as guilty when an investigation has not yet given any proof of any illegal activity is just so pathetic.
A neighbor of mine did this just the other day and her only reason she believed Copeland was guilty of illegal activity was because he was too rich.

It is just plain jealousy that most people here are judging the man and they can toss out things like " all tele-evagels are scammers" or " Look at the Bakers" and whatever nonsense they want to toss out, bottom line is pure jealousy and it isn't pretty at all.
In fact it is far more damaging to judge others than what they are trying to judge Copeland of doing. I've personally not given the man a dime, I give to no ministries, not even local churches, but I can smell jealousy when it gets too close.

That is because most of Christianity has been given a false rendering of the bible.
They are brainwashed to think that all they have to do is profess their belief that Jesus dies, rose from the dead and was received into heaven fully clothed in his earthly form.
And then they need do nothing else, they can be pompous and ignoring of their own faults, all the while pointing their fingers at others perceived/real faults or; they think it is a carte blanche to continue being backbiting, lying, cheating or worse, all the traits they possessed before they professed a belief in Jesus.
They rarely even know what their bibles say about what it really means to be in salvation mode but that is the church's fault because it has taught to those this propagation of lies so that they in turn would go out into the smaller congregations and teach the same things.
Rare is the man, or woman, who is able to truly think for themselves and is not so easily mislead by the words of others. The majority of mankind is prone to mob mentality, whether this is because it is easier, I'm not sure, but it is a fact.

Look non-thinking person, if by my judging post you may just mean me, then I can judge, I'm not a Christian, I'm not bound by the same laws and admonishments as those who make a pledge to follow this or that leader, in which case, they shouldn't judge, and those were the ones with whom I was referring.

When a person who judges another unjustly and yet calls themselves a follower of the teaching of non-judgement, which a Christian is, or at least suppose to be, if they knew a wit about their bible, then they open themselves up for the same kind of judgments.

This is a religious tenet, of which I am not, thankfully. I knew of a woman who moved to Dallas. Suddenly she started seeing demons everywhere. My friend advised her to go to Copeland's church to get deliverance. When she called for help they refused her b/c she wasn't a member (she was new to Dallas).

Thank God for annointing men like Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin to teach the saints about what belongs to them.These brothers have revelation on God's word.No wonder they live healthy and wealthy lives!!!
Hagin had heart problems for most of his life. When these people get sick and they do,they keep it as quiet as possible. Then they consult the finest doctors money can buy! Dodie Osteen,Betty Price,Peggy Capps, and Jan Crouch didn't "confess" their illnesses away. They were treated medically and by the sovereign mercy of God they live today! R.W. Schambach had heart by pass surgery,but yet he tells TBN viewers "they don't need doctors they just need God." All of them are charlatans!
This stuff never ceases to both amaze and amuse. I left the WOF movement over ten years ago and I'm glad that I did. Personally I don't think that Grassley's investigation will yield anything. This doesn't mean that there aren't questionable goings on behind the closed doors of these organisations, but perhaps the good senator is doing this for his own sake and choosing a soft target. Lord knows.
All I ask is that before you pass judgement on the Copelands, take the time to visit their website www.kcm.org and look at all the good they do for the world. If they are millionare fakes, why would they go through all this trouble to help people. Read the bible and compare it to what they say. The truth will come out, but before anyone wants to run out of Texas, give them a chance to explain their side of the story. There are fakes in the world, but I believe the Copelands are doing a great things and speak the truth; God's truth.
At one time I actually thought I'd vote for Huckabee, but not now. K. Copeland and his kind are the biggest detriment for Christ and his church. They twist scripture into a self-fulfulling money-making machine. I live very close to his "so-called" Church. All you have to do is read the sign to the entrance of the compound. Have another sip of Kool Aid buddy, then take a listen. Bush did this same thing. He got in bed...so to speak...with the televangelists and it got him elected. Huckabee is simply trying to do the same thing, and it's obvious that he's desperate.
By saying "I'm with you Kenneth, you're trying to get money to the people and the 11% approval rating senate is trying to take it away." (paraphrased)......sounds to me like he's turning against his own kind and jumping in bed with Copeland!!
Copeland is raising money for the cash-strapped Huckabee and he's broke so......2+2.
It amazes me that ministers like Kenneth Copeland rail against the very government that has given them the many tax exemptions that they enjoy the privilege of having. His arrogance and his contempt for the governing bodies that rule our country is not in the mold of the teachings of Jesus. Two scriptures come to mind that warns those who rebel against the authority that operates over them and the punishment for such arrogance and contempt.
1 Peter 2:11-14 clearly states to Christians the following:
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
And 1 Samuel 15:23 is the scripture that the prophet told the King of Israel Saul when God removed him from being position of King:
15 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
That prison door Kenneth Copeland claims he doesn't fear may well be the hand of God telling him he needs to remember who butters his bread.
God is my all.
Kenneth is a great man, a man of his word, He lives what he speaks, That is more than alot of us can say.
Just because he wont show his "tax papers" who cares?

Elise, how can you honestly say that Copeland is a great man ?????. Look,, not to be rude,,, because I too, was blind as a bat,, but God opened my eyes to the truth. These evangelist robbed us blind almost to bankruptcy, twisted the scriptures to keep us blind. My testimony is way too long, but,, I feel your innocent spirit has been used and deceived,,,please,please, please, save your soul from these evil men..they are leading people to destruction.
